Titas Sadhu
Hailing from West Bengal, Titas Sadhu is a young prodigy who played a notable role in bringing home the first World Cup for the Indian Women’s team in 2023. She picked up two wickets for six runs to win the title of Player of the Match in the inaugural U-19 T20 World Cup final match in South Africa. Overall, she picked up six wickets in the marquee event.
If you spoke to Titas during her formative years, you wouldn’t have known she would grow up to earn accolades for the Indian Cricket Team. She scored 93% in her school leaving exams. She was also a good sprinter and swimmer but she chose cricket above all. Her father, Ranadeep Sadhu, is a former athlete and currently runs a cricket academy in Hoogly.
Her cricketing journey has not been an easy one. Her first meeting with cricket was when, as a kid, she helped her father with scorekeeping at their family-owned ancestral cricket club. One rainy day, Ranadeep casually asked her to bowl and Titas was on the mark right from the word go. At the age of 13, she applied for State trials but was rejected. However, this incident did not lower Titas’s grit and determination. She kept pulling her socks. She was able to generate pace and swing like no other at her age. Finally, she was selected for the senior Bengal team at the age of just 16.
Titas’ exceptional bowling skills continued to make waves, which saw her picked up by the Delhi Capitals for the inaugural Women’s Premier League. An India call-up followed in 2023, and she made her T20I debut at the Asian Games. She capped off the tournament with a sensational performance in the final, returning figures of 3 for 6 in four overs, including a maiden, as India clinched the gold medal.
The following year, she went on to make her ODI debut in Australia. The international stage tested her thoroughly, and while she couldn’t quite cement her place in either of the two white-ball formats, she remained part of the India A setup. Released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the auction, the Gujarat Giants snapped her up at the auction for the 2026 edition of the Women’s Premier League.
