Commentary
Welcome back to the chase. The umpires are out in the middle, followed by the players of Bangladesh who spread out after a prep talk by their skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto in a hurdle. There comes out the openers of New Zealand as well, Devon Conway will open the inning with Will Young. Taskin Ahmed will start the proceedings for Bangladesh with a slip in place. Here we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
New Zealand's fielding was sharp, complementing their bowling efforts. Alongside Bracewell's heroics, Will O'Rourke contributed with two wickets, while captain Mitchell Santner also chipped in with a wicket. With a modest target of 237 to chase on a good batting wicket, New Zealand will fancy their chances. It will be interesting to see if Bangladesh's bowlers can turn the game around or if New Zealand will cruise to victory. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting run chase!
Michael Bracewell is up for a quick chat. He expresses satisfaction with his performance, acknowledging the unpredictability of bowling. He credits his experience of bowling in windy Wellington conditions for helping him adapt to Rawalpindi's breeze. Bracewell praises New Zealand's exceptional fielding, emphasizing their commitment to saving every run. Reflecting on his catch to dismiss Shanto, he admits the breeze made it tricky but is pleased to have held on. Bracewell notes that batting became easier toward the end of Bangladesh’s innings and expects the ball to skid on under the lights. He believes a strong start in the powerplay will be crucial to chasing down the target.
Bangladesh began positively, reaching 58/1 in the first 10 overs. However, Michael Bracewell’s exceptional spell turned the tide, as he claimed 4 wickets for just 26 runs in his 10 overs. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto fought hard with a resilient 77, but he lacked support from the other end. Jaker Ali’s late cameo of 45 runs helped Bangladesh avoid a complete collapse, ensuring they at least crossed the 200-run mark, which looked unlikely at one stage.
Bangladesh produced a disappointing batting performance, managing only 236/9 in their 50 overs on a batting-friendly track at Rawalpindi. Given the conditions, this total appears well below par, and credit goes to New Zealand’s bowlers for their disciplined approach, delivering many dot balls to stifle the hosts.

Commentary
Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where New Zealand goes through and knocks out Bangladesh. Next up in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is a big clash between Australia and South Africa. A lot is at stake as a win for either will confirm their spot in the semi-final. That match is scheduled to be played on 25th February, Tuesday at 9 am GMT. But as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the action. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Mitchell Santner, the victorious skipper of New Zealand says that it is a nice feeling, qualifying to the semi-final as this match was tough and they did well. The way they pulled it back in the middle with the ball was pleasing, and they are pretty happy with the bowling of Bracewell. Adds that Michael Bracewell is a quality bowler and the way he varies his pace makes it quite difficult for the batters to play. Tells the key to any win is taking wickets in the middle phase, and he is happy that they did exactly that. Mentions that the pitch was a bit two-paced as the dew wasn’t as much as they would have expected. Talks about the batting of Rachin Ravindra, he likes to play in ICC events, and it looks like he has never left the game. That partnership with Tom Latham was match-changing. Says about the match versus India that the surface may be a bit slower and the spinners will come into play there as well.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh, says that they batted well in the first ten overs, but they lost too many wickets in the middle phase. Adds that it was a good wicket to bat on and they needed two big partnerships but he is disappointed with the middle order. Praises Nahid Rana for his impressive bowling and says he has a lot of potential. Mentions that the next match is still a big game for them as they want to finish the tournament on a positive note. Ends by saying that they just need to put on a collective performance to challenge Pakistan.
Michael Bracewell is PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his impressive bowling with four wickets. He says that it is awesome to contribute to the win as the main focus was coming here and to win it and secure the semi-final spot. He says that he just wants to keep the stumps in the game as if you give any width to the batter, they can free their arms so it is key to bowl to wicket to wicket and tight lines. Adds that the breeze of here reminds him of Wellington, and he has bowled in these conditions. Mentions that their side looks pretty well balanced and they are just trying to play, what is in front of them and he is pretty happy to bowl the full quota of his 10 overs. Talks about the partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Tom Latham, it was nice to finish the game as Rachin is going from strength to strength in the ICC events, and he is a wonderful player.
Presentation Time...
Bangladesh simply didn’t have enough runs to defend. Taskin Ahmed got them off to a dream start with a wicket in the first over, and Nahid Rana’s dismissal of Kane Williamson sparked some hope. But they failed to build on that momentum, allowing a couple of big partnerships to take the game away. A missed run-out chance when Rachin Ravindra was in his 20s and another dropped catch later proved costly. Rishad Hossain and Fizz picked up a wicket each, but by then, the damage was done, sealing yet another group-stage exit for Bangladesh in an ICC tournament.
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh once again found it tough to put up a big total. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto fought hard with a gritty 77 but lacked solid support from the rest. Jaker Ali played a handy knock, while Tanzid Hasan and Rishad Hossain chipped in, but it wasn’t enough. Michael Bracewell was the standout with the ball for New Zealand, grabbing four wickets, while the pacers combined to pick up four more, keeping Bangladesh in check.
New Zealand were in early trouble, losing Young and Williamson cheaply, but Rachin Ravindra, making his return after a head injury, joined Devon Conway to rebuild the innings. The duo looked assured, stitching together a crucial stand before Conway fell after a steady start. Ravindra, however, was in sublime touch, smashing a brilliant fourth ODI century and becoming the first Kiwi to score 4 hundred in ICC events, while Tom Latham continued his fine form with a well-crafted fifty. Though both fell before the finish line, Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell ensured there were no late stumbles, sealing a comfortable win with plenty of balls to spare!
NEW ZEALAND MARCH INTO THE SEMIS! This win not only seals their spot but also confirms India's place in the final four, leaving just the race for the top spot in the group. Pakistan’s long-awaited ICC tournament at home ends in disappointment as they, along with Bangladesh, become the first teams to bow out. The Blackcaps continue to dominate in this format, looking sharper than ever and determined to get their hands on the trophy!
FOUR! THAT SEALS THE DEAL FOR NEW ZEALAND! THEY ARE INTO THE SEMI FINAL! Tossed up, around off, Michael Bracewell leans on and drives it in the gap towards deep cover for a boundary. New Zealand win it by five wickets with 23 balls to spare.

Drinks! New Zealand are cruising along this chase with Rachin Ravindra batting brilliantly. Tom Latham has also continued his good format and they have already shown intent to finish things quickly here. Bangladesh needs to pick up three or four wickets in quick succession to have any chance of making a comeback, which is looking very unlikely. Every Kiwi run here will also hurt Pakistan fans as they are on the brink of elimination now along with Bangladesh.
Rachin Ravindra is nearing his 4th ODI ton and if he gets to that, the trend of at least one batter scoring a century in every game of this Champions Trophy will continue.

All is set for this sixth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Before we see the action, both teams come out and line up for their respective national anthems. The match officials are being followed by the players. It will be New Zealand's first, followed by the national anthem of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admits he would have preferred to bowl first but feels the pitch looks good for batting. He confirms two changes to the team, with Mahmudullah and Nahid Rana coming in for Soumya Sarkar and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Shanto expresses excitement about Nahid Rana, praising his impressive bowling performance over the past few years. He highlights the confidence gained from their strong batting in the middle overs against India and emphasizes the need to handle the new ball well in this match.
Mitchell Santner, the skipper of New Zealand, says that they are going to bowl first as the wicket looks good and it will get better for batting. Adds that there is a bit of dew in the evening and under the lights, the ball will get some skid on. Informs that there are two changes Kyle Jamieson is in for Nathan Smith and unfortunately Daryl Mitchell is out because of illness and Rachin Ravindra is in. Further adds that it has been a good few days including winning the Tri-nation series and it is a different challenge today but they are quick to adapt and want to win it. Talks about the form of Tom Latham as he is a class player and knows how to adapt to big situations. Concludes it by saying that Bangladesh is a good side and they are ready for a good challenge.
New Zealand (Playing XI) - Devon Conway, Will Young, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra (In for Daryl Mitchell), Tom Latham (WK), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (C), Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson (In for Nathan Smith), Will O'Rourke.
Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Tanzid Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Tawhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim (WK), Mahmudullah (In for Soumya Sarkar), Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana (In for Tanzim Hasan Sakib).
TOSS! Mitchell Santner, the skipper of New Zealand has won the toss and decided to BOWL first!
PITCH REPORT! At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Mel Jones reports that the venue is set to host its first game of the Champions Trophy 2025. The weather is pleasant, with temperatures in the low 20s and a gentle breeze sweeping across the ground. She notes the ground dimensions, with square boundaries at 71m and 65m, a straight hit of 80m, and the cow corner boundary at 78m. Matthew Hayden joins her and describes the pitch as a belter with a few visible cracks, indicating slight dryness. He believes seamers, especially New Zealand’s tall bowlers, will benefit from the surface. Hayden suggests that a total of around 270 would be competitive and advises winning the toss and bowling first to set a clear target.
The pitch at Rawalpindi is expected to be good for batting, with early movement available for seamers when the ball is new. The cloudy conditions could help the pacers extract some swing, making the first few overs crucial. While Bangladesh have everything to play for, New Zealand appear to have the upper hand, given their current form and balanced lineup. However, if Bangladesh’s top-order fires and their spinners get into the game early, they could make life difficult for the Kiwis. Expect a thrilling contest with playoff hopes hanging in the balance. Don’t go anywhere as the toss and playing XI aren’t far away!
Bangladesh, on the other hand, had a disappointing outing against India, with their top order failing to fire. The only bright spots were Tawhid Hridoy, who scored a brilliant century, and Jaker Ali, who contributed with a valuable half-century. Hridoy suffered from cramps in the last game but is expected to be fit, while Mahmudullah is set to return after missing the first match due to a minor injury. Their bowling attack, particularly their spinners, looked promising, but the absence of genuine pace hurt them. To address this, Nahid Rana could be drafted into the playing XI to add some firepower. The experienced batters Soumya Sarkar and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto need to step up if Bangladesh want to challenge a strong New Zealand side.
New Zealand have been in top form, with their batting lineup firing on all cylinders. In their last match against Pakistan, Will Young played a superb knock, scoring a century, while Tom Latham was outstanding as well, also scoring a hundred and winning Player of the Match. Their middle order looks strong with Glenn Phillips providing a quick-fire fifty, showcasing his finishing abilities. However, the experienced duo of Devon Conway and Kane Williamson had forgettable outings and will be keen to make an impact in this match. Bowling-wise, skipper Mitchell Santner has been leading from the front, offering both control and wicket-taking ability with his spin. New Zealand’s pace attack, featuring Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke, has been lethal, and they will look to exploit any weaknesses in Bangladesh’s batting.
Hello and welcome to the sixth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where New Zealandtakes on Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This game holds massive significance for Bangladesh, as a loss here would knock them out of playoff contention after their defeat to India in the previous match. Meanwhile, New Zealand are flying high after a dominant victory over hosts Pakistan, and another win here would put them on the verge of securing a semi-final spot. In their last five head-to-head encounters, New Zealand have been dominant, winning four times, but Bangladesh will be desperate to turn things around in this high-stakes clash.
... MATCH DAY ...
The ICC Champions Trophy is an unforgiving tournament where a single misstep can send a team packing. Bangladesh finds themselves in a precarious position, desperately needing a win after a tough loss to India. Their campaign hangs by a thread, and standing in their way is a formidable New Zealand side that dominated hosts Pakistan in their opener. The Kiwis, despite losing Rachin Ravindra to injury, have a batting lineup that looks rock-solid. Will Young and Tom Latham announced themselves with twin centuries, while Devon Conway and the ever-reliable Kane Williamson add further steel to the top order. The firepower of Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell makes them a daunting challenge, with the former already proving his worth in this tournament. Skipper Mitchell Santner has been outstanding with both his leadership and his accurate, economical spin, well-supported by Phillips and Bracewell in the middle overs. The pace attack, led by Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke, have been lethal with both the new ball and at the death. For Bangladesh, the equation is simple - win or risk elimination. Their batting struggled against India, but Tawhid Hridoy’s fighting century and Jaker Ali’s fifty showed they have the grit to battle through adversity. However, against a side like New Zealand, the top order must fire. Soumya Sarkar, who smashed a stunning 169 against the Kiwis in 2023, will look to recreate that magic, while Tanzid Hasan has shown glimpses of brilliance. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto must lead from the front, and the experience of Mushfiqur Rahim and (hopefully returning) Mahmudullah will be crucial. With the ball, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib offer a mix of pace and skill, while Nahid Rana could be an option for extra fire. In the spin department, Rishad Hossain’s leg-spin and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s all-round ability will be key. This match isn’t just about points - it’s about survival. New Zealand wants to seal a semi-final spot, while Bangladesh is fighting to stay alive. With everything on the line, expect a high-intensity battle where every run and wicket will count. Buckle up - this is one showdown you don’t want to miss!

FOUR! DISPATCHED! Taskin Ahmed bangs in short of a length, around middle, a slower one, Glenn Phillips goes on the back foot and pulls it hard towards mid-wicket for a boundary. They need just one now.
A high full toss, around off, dipping one, Glenn Phillips is late in his shot as he manages to keep it down towards cover. He takes a review for a NO Ball. The third umpire comes into play and he is sure after seeing the replays that it is a legal ball.
There is an appeal for a catch but is turned down by the umpire. A low full toss, around off, Glenn Phillips digs it out as the ball lobs up in the air and the cover fielder moves forward and catches it. The umpire says that it is a bump ball.
Hard length, on top of off, Glenn Phillips makes room a bit and looks to defend it but gets it through the outer half of the bat.
On a good length, around middle, Glenn Phillips drops it down to mid-wicket.
Back of a length, around off, Michael Bracewell swivels and looks to pull it but gets it through the bottom part of the bat to deep fine leg for a single.
There is a bit of a delay. There seems to be an issue with a flicker of light on the sight screen. The umpires are asking Phillips to just continue as they need just 6 runs to win. That area now has been blocked by some black material and we are good to go again.
