Hailing from the city of Mardan, Fakhar Zaman played his first List A game way back in 2012. He spent years playing domestic cricket and piled on the runs but went unnoticed. Finally, in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy in 2016-17, he scored in excess of 600 runs at an average of 51 to get into the reckoning.

Zaman bagged a contract with the Lahore franchise in the PSL and seeing a few of his destructive knocks, the Pakistan selectors named him in the T20I side to tour West Indies in 2017. He didn't do justice to his selection then but the selectors showed faith in his talent and included him in the squad for the Champions Trophy in that very year. Fakhar didn't waste much time in proving his worth and with scores of 31, 50, 57, 114 - he finally made it big. His maiden century, in particular, brought him many accolades as it came in the final against the arch-rivals India and took Pakistan to the title glory.

In 2018, Zaman was included in the Pakistan Test squad for the tours of Ireland and England but didn't play. In July, his 91 against Australia in the tri-series final helped Pakistan win the T20I trophy. A few days after that, Pakistan were involved in a 5-match ODI series and Fakhar Zaman announced his arrival in the grandest manner. Plenty of records tumbled in that series where Fakhar smashed the first double century in ODIs for Pakistan, became the first Pakistani batsman to score 500 runs in a five-match ODI series and also registered his name as the fastest player to 1000 ODI runs. Seeing Fakhar's progress in the limited overs cricket, the Pakistani selectors decided to try him in the Test cricket also. Handed a debut against Australia in Abu Dhabi, Zaman returned scores of 94 and 66 in his first Test outing. However, in more demanding conditions in South Africa, he was found wanting with his technique.

The Navy sailor turned cricketer has cemented his place in Pakistan's limited overs setup and it won't be surprising if he goes on to make and break many records with his aggressive brand of batting.
