Commentary

Right then, that is it from this shortened but entertaining game where New Zealand go 2-0 up against Pakistan. Next up, is the 3rd T20I on 21st March Friday, where the Kiwis will be looking to seal the series while the Men in Green will play to stay alive. That will begin at 6.15 am GMT, but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Michael Bracewell, the victorious skipper of New Zealand says that it was a great bowling performance from them and they were happy to chase this target. Adds that the wicket was under covers and there was extra bounce, so Pakistan tried the shorter deliveries more. Says that it was good to see both the openers taking the game to them and he is very happy with the effort. Ends by saying that the weather in Wellington is not bad either, and it is nice to see the fans supporting despite the challenging conditions.

Salman Agha, the captain of Pakistan says that it was a better game with a lot of positives. Adds that they batted well but need to finish well, and the fielding was outstanding. Adds that they need to adjust to the bounce to put up a better challenge to the Kiwis. Says that the spinners bowled well after the Powerplay, and then Haris Rauf also did well. Ends by saying that they need to be a bit better in the Powerplay with both bat and ball.

Tim Seifert is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his smashing knock. He says that it was good fun out there. Adds that after the first over, he thought it would be a good wicket, but the partnership worked out for them. Adds that he and Finn Allen have played a lot of cricket together, and it is always a nice feeling to play for the nation. Mentions that you are up against some of the best in the world and it is important to apply pressure and learn from your mistakes. Ends by saying that, he dropped two catches in the first game and was nervous but has worked on that.

Presentation Time...

Not much to write home about regarding Pakistan's bowling effort. Shaheen Afridi began with a maiden over, offering a glimmer of hope, but things quickly unraveled as the Kiwi openers unleashed a barrage of power hitting. Haris Rauf was a bright spot, claiming a couple of wickets and showing he'll be crucial in the upcoming games. Khushdil Shah held his own, but the rest of the attack proved far too expensive

Earlier in the game, Pakistan put up a competitive total, thanks to a solid innings from skipper Salman Agha, supported by handy cameos from Khushdil Shah and Shaheen Afridi. New Zealand made good use of the conditions with the ball — and apart from Zakary Foulkes and Michael Bracewell, every bowler contributed with a couple of wickets, which helped keep the Men in Green in check

Despite starting with a maiden over, New Zealand raced out of the blocks as both openers seemed to be in a contest of their own — who could hit more sixes. The pair smashed 10 sixes between them, effectively taking the game away early and breaking the back of the chase. While they didn’t stay till the end, the result was all but sealed by then. Mitchell Hay chipped in with a handy knock, and Michael Bracewell applied the finishing touches to seal the win

A comfortable win for the Kiwis! They take a 2-0 lead in the series with a strong all-round performance. Pakistan put up more of a fight compared to the previous game, but still have work to do if they want to stay in the series.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle. Tim Seifert and Finn Allen are the two openers for New Zealand. Shaheen Afridi to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

…THE RUN CHASE…

Right then, New Zealand needs 136 runs to go 2-0 up in the series. Can they do it or will Pakistan show some fight and come back hard with the ball? We shall find out. Join us in a bit for the second essay.

Ish Sodhi is up for a chat. He says that this ground is usually a spinner's graveyard, and this is a great batting wicket. Adds that Pakistan have put up a good score but they should be able to chase it down. Mentions that you need to protect the straighter boundary and picking up wickets at regular intervals helped them. Says that Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf can be threats, and they need to be wary of them despite them playing a spinner less.

New Zealand were tidy with the ball and on the field. They took their catches and never allowed Pakistan to get away with the game. It was a combined effort from all the bowlers where Jacob Duffy, Ben Sears, James Neesham, and Ish Sodhi, all chipped in with a couple of wickets each and kept the visitors to a below par score.

A slightly improved batting effort from Pakistan gets them to a decent score of 135/9 from their 15 overs. Having been sent into bat first, Pakistan struggled early on and lost their openers early but Salman Agha played an impressive knock of 46 off 28 balls and kept the innings together. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and Salman Agha too fell in the 10th over. Handy cameos from Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi took the score past the 130-run mark.

Michael Bracewell is quick to pick up the ball and throw it at the bowler's end on the bounce. James Neesham collects it and breaks the stumps with Rauf well short of his crease. Pakistan finishes on 135/9!

14.52

A low full toss, outside off, Shaheen Afridi drills it towards deep point for a couple of runs. Can Afridi finish the innings on a high?

SIX! BANG! He connects this time alright! Pitched up and around off again, in the slot this tie. Shaheen Afridi clears his front leg away and smokes it over the deep mid-wicket fence for a biggie. That ball seems to have been lost. Oh..wait! Someone in the crowd has found it and throws it over on the field. We are good to go!

0.51

Good length delivery, just outside off. Dabbed down to deep third for a single.

Salman Agha walks in at number 3.

0.4W

OUT! CAUGHT! Jacob Duffy draws first blood. Lands it on a length, on off. Hasan Nawaz looks to heave it across the line but it comes off the cue end of the blade and flies off the edge toward the deep point region. Mark Chapman runs back, keeps his eye on the ball, and completes a fine catch. Hasan Nawaz trudges off for a duck twice in a row now. Pakistan are rocked early.

0.30

Short of a good length, on the middle and leg. Hasan Nawaz gets behind the line and defends from the crease.

0.20

Good-length delivery, attacking the stumps. Hasan Nawaz offers full face of the bat and blocks it forward.

0.11

Pakistan are away! Pitched full and angled into the middle and leg stump line. Mohammad Haris clips it through mid-wicket for a single.

We are done with the pre-match formalities. The players are making their way out to the middle. Mohammad Haris and Hasan Nawaz will open the batting for Pakistan. It will be Jacob Duffy with the ball in hand for New Zealand. Let's play...

The teams and match officials make their way to the ground for the National Anthems. We start with the anthem of Pakistan, followed by that of New Zealand. Live action is coming shortly.

Pitch Report - Grant Elliott and Frankie MacKay are at the pitchside. They share that the pitch has a nice covering of grass and will do a bit for the seamers. They add that there will be some sideways movement and a bit of bounce and that will skid on nicely. They mention that it will be a challenge for the spinners with short boundaries on either side.

Salman Agha, the skipper of Pakistan says that they are aware of putting in a good effort today. States that when you come to New Zealand, there will be extra bounce and they are ready for it. Adds that they have a talented squad and they are looking forward to this game. Ends by sharing that Haris Rauf comes in for Abrar Ahmed.

Michael Bracewell, the skipper of New Zealand says that they will bowl. Adds that they pitch has been under covers so there might be something for the bowlers early on. Shares that it was a perfect template in the last game and hopes to keep the winning momentum. Ends by mentioning the changes with Kyle Jamieson and Tim Robinson are not playing. In come Ben Sears and James Neesham.

New Zealand (Playing XI) - Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham (in for Tim Robinson), Mitchell Hay (WK), Michael Bracewell (C), Zakary Foulkes, Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy, Ben Sears (in for Kyle Jamieson).

Pakistan (Playing XI) - Mohammad Haris (WK), Hasan Nawaz, Salman Agha (C), Irfan Khan, Shadab Khan, Abdul Samad, Khushdil Shah, Jahandad Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf (in for Abrar Ahmed), Mohammad Ali.

Toss Update - New Zealand have won the toss and opted to BOWL.

UPDATE - Good news, folks! The toss will happen at 2.10 am GMT and the match will begin at 2.40 am GMT. It will be a 15-over-a side game. Let's hope that there are no more delays in this contest.

Shadab Khan is up for a chat. He says that the conditions are cold for them. Adds that the boundary dimensions are small so he needs to plan his bowling and further says that they have a young team who want to prove their skills and showcase their talent. Shares that they will assess the condition today and look to play better than the last game. Mentions that as a senior player, he needs to show the young players on how to play in these conditions as they need to adjust to the pace and bounce. States that he enjoyed working with Mike Hesson at the PSL as they won the championship and is looking forward to this year's competition. Ends by adding that he hopes to do well with the bat at the international level which will further boost his confidence.

UPDATE - (1.41 am GMT) - The rain has cleared up and the weather seems much better now. The umpires had a look at the conditions and we have another update that the next inspection will happen at 2.00 am GMT. Stay tuned.

Here's some positive news from Dunedin. The rain has stopped, and the covers are off now. The super soppers are doing their work, while the umpires check the pitch. The next inspection is at 1.30 am GMT. Stick around for further updates.

There was a bit of drizzle earlier in Dunedin but it has eased off and the covers are coming off. The teams have arrived and the players are starting to get through their warm-up drills. The Toss is delayed for now due to a wet outfield. Let's hope the weather clears up and we get a full contest today.

On the other hand, New Zealand’s dominant performance in the opener saw them comfortably chase down the low target, thanks to solid contributions from Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy, and Ish Sodhi with the ball, while Tim Seifert and Finn Allen added swift runs to seal the victory in just over 10 overs. Pakistan will be eager to bounce back and level the series, while New Zealand will be aiming to extend their winning streak to 2-0. So, who will emerge victorious today? We'll find out soon. Stay tuned for the toss and team news.

The home side, led by the destructive performances of Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy, dismantled the Men in Green for a mere 91 runs. Only three batters managed to reach double digits, with Khushdil Shah top-scoring with 32, although he was unable to carry on. The bowlers were left with little to defend, and apart from Abrar Ahmed, who claimed Pakistan’s sole wicket, the rest of the attack failed to make an impact. Pakistan will likely consider making a few changes as they aim for a stronger showing in this crucial second game.

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second T20I in the five-match series between New Zealand and Pakistan, from the University Oval in Dunedin. In the opening match, Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat by 9 wickets, with nearly 10 overs to spare, and will be keen to come out with a much better effort today.

...MATCH DAY...

The T20I series between New Zealand and Pakistan shifts to Dunedin, where the University Oval will host the second match of the five-game contest. The hosts dominated the opening encounter with a commanding victory and will look to build on that momentum. Meanwhile, Pakistan, aiming for a fresh start in the format, had a forgettable outing, getting bowled out for just 91. Their batting inexperience showed as they went too hard too soon, failing to read the conditions and adapt. Four of their top six batters fell for single-digit scores, resulting in Pakistan’s fifth-lowest total in T20I history. With a relatively new-look batting lineup, the onus will be on skipper Salman Agha, Shadab Khan, and Mohammad Haris to step up. New Zealand, on the other hand, were nearly flawless in the first T20I. The only blemish was a couple of dropped chances in the field, something they will look to improve. Kyle Jamieson made a dream return to the T20I setup, picking up three wickets, while the rest of the bowling unit chipped in effectively. Interestingly, the last T20I played at the University Oval was also between these two teams and turned out to be a high-scoring affair. With both Men's Super Smash games earlier this year at this venue also producing plenty of runs this season, expect another entertaining contest. Will Pakistan regroup and mount a strong comeback? Or will New Zealand tighten their grip on the series and extend their lead? We shall find out.
