Dhan Singh Rawat, a Cabinet Minister in Uttarakhand, has been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is also close to the RSS and has worked as the state secretary of ABVP. He has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand, representing the constituency of Srinagar and as a state minister. A party secretary for the BJP in Uttarakhand, he failed to win the election to the state legislature in 2012 from Srinagar. He entered the legislature in 2017 by defeating Congress leader Ganesh Godiyal and has since served as a State Minister (Independent Charge) with responsibility for health, higher education, disaster management, rehabilitation and protocols.
