Commentary
That's a wrap! Zimbabwe takes a 1-0 lead in the series. The third T20I between these sides will be played on Tuesday, the 25th of February. The game will begin at 11.30 am GMT. Do join us for the early build up as well. Until then, take care, and cheers!
Sikandar Raza, the skipper of Zimbabwe, says that they had a slight hiccup in the middle overs but they finished well. Adds that it was a great team effort. Ends by saying that Tony Munyonga is a great talent and he is happy for him.
Paul Stirling, the skipper of Ireland says that he thinks they were on top at the start but Tony Munyonga played a great knock. Adds that Harry Tector is a great player and Craig Young is a great talent as well.
Tony Munyonga is the Player of the Match. He says that the plan was simple to keep on batting and get their team over the line. Adds that this knock is very important to him and he will look to keep on growing. Ends by saying that watching a lot of cricket helped him and he is happy with the win.
Presentations coming up...
Earlier in the game, Zimbabwe's bowlers dominated Ireland, limiting them to 138 for 8. Trevor Gwandu and Sikandar Raza combined for five wickets, with Ngarava removing the key player Paul Stirling early. Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector put up a brief resistance during the powerplay, but Raza dismissed Tector, increasing the pressure on Tucker. Eventually, Gwandu took Tucker's wicket as well, ending his innings at 46 runs.
Craig Young was brilliant with the ball and he was well supported by the others. The spell though, by Josh Little probably cost them the game. He was a little too expensive on a slow track and they needed him to be at his best. A good effort though by the Irish but they would feel they left a few runs with the bat towards the end and that’s what cost them the game.
What an absolute low scoring thriller! It was Zimbabwe in the end who came out on top! Ireland, though, did really well to make a fight off a score, that we felt was under par. Ireland got three wickets early but then Burl and Raza put up a good stand and got the chase back on track. Both though fell in quick succession but Tony Munyonga batted brilliantly with the lower order to take his side over the line.
FOUR! Tony Munyonga finishes off in style! Fuller, outside off, Tony Munyonga leans on and drives it magnificently through covers for a boundary. Zimbabwe beat Ireland by 3 wickets!
A full toss, on off, Richard Ngarava taps it to mid on for one. The fielder has a shy at the bowler's end but misses. Scores level now!

We are all set for the game to begin. The umpires and the players are out in the middle. Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker walk in with their blades for Ireland. Richard Ngarava has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...
Pitch Report - Victor Mpitsang is pitchside. He says that the surface has a lot of grass cover and cracks, which could assist the bowlers initially due to moisture. He expects the ball to swing in the first couple of overs, especially with the new ball. However, the pitch is likely to become more batting-friendly as the game progresses. Ends by saying that a score of 170 plus could be crucial, as teams achieving this total tend to win at this venue.
Paul Stirling, the skipper of Ireland, says that he would have also opted to bowl first, utilizing the new ball to exploit the pitch conditions. He praised Ireland's seamers for their strong start in the previous game, despite the result. Ends by saying that they will go with the same team today.
Sikandar Raza, the skipper of Zimbabwe, says that they will bowl first due to the tacky wicket caused by the rain. He noted that the moisture and rain from the previous day and morning made the conditions tricky, and he wants to put Ireland under pressure. He says that Ryan Burl's form and the contributions of Tony and Museclewa in the previous game were excellent. Ends by saying that Zimbabwe will play with the same team today.
Zimbabwe (Unchanged Playing XI) - Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani (WK), Wessly Madhevere, Sikandar Raza (C), Tony Munyonga, Ryan Burl, Tashinga Musekiwa, Wellington Masakadza, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Trevor Gwandu.
Ireland (Unchanged Playing XI) - Paul Stirling (C), Neil Rock, Curtis Campher, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (WK), George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Craig Young, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Ben White.
TOSS - Zimbabwe have won the toss and will BOWL first.
As we gear up for the second T20I, the big question remains, will the rain stay away? Both teams will be eager to get a full game in and take the lead in the series. Let's hope for a thrilling contest, uninterrupted by the weather! Who will come out on top today? We shall find out soon. Toss and team news to follow shortly...
The hosts, Zimbabwe, managed to score 77/5 in their 9 overs, thanks to Ryan Burl's cameo and Tashinga Musekiwa's handy contribution towards the end. Ireland's bowlers, Craig Young, Joshua Little, and Graham Hume, impressed with their spells, sharing the wickets among themselves.
Welcome to the second T20I between Zimbabwe and Ireland at the Harare Sports Club! After a rain-marred series opener, both teams will be hoping for a full game today. The first match was reduced to 9 overs per side due to relentless rain, and eventually, the match was abandoned without Ireland getting a chance to chase.
... Match Day ...
Ireland's long tour of Zimbabwe continues and we are into the penultimate game of the series. It all started with the One-off Test match that Ireland won on the final day followed by the three-match ODI series which hosts Zimbabwe won 2-1 in the final game and now it is the three-match T20I series. Unfortunately, the first T20I was washed out and we could barely witness 9 or so overs worth of play which makes this 2nd T20I all the more crucial. The game will once again take place at the Harare Sports Club and with the weather expected to be inclement again, we might see another curtailed game but let's hope for the best. Talking about the teams, whatever little play we saw in the 1st T20I, the Zimbabwe top order really struggled against the Irish pacers and it was just Ryan Burl who managed to hit his way out of trouble but that wasn't a big enough sample size. Brian Bennett has been a revelation for Zimbabwe throughout this tour and will be expected to deliver with the bat once again. Both teams have got a solid pace attack with a couple of handy spinners to back them up as well. The real battle is between the two top orders, which albeit inconsistent, can do a lot of damage if they get going. Who do you think will come out on top in this contest?
