We are back for the chase! The England players are in a huddle just outside the ropes and then they make their way out to the middle. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are the two openers for India. Saqib Mahmood to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, with 305 runs to chase, India will be hoping for a good start from the opening pair. With their chase expert, Virat Kohli back in the side, the Indian batting line up sure looks good enough for the task. Will they be able to do it? Or will the England bowlers get the better of them and keep the series alive for the final ODI? Let's find out, in the Run Chase!
Ben Duckett is up for a quick chat and says that it felt like a good surface. The odd ball is keeping low. Says that will have to see how it goes later on. Further mentions about the opening that they are learning to bat as a pair at the top and they are looking forward to that partnership moving forward. Says that getting 300 is always a good total. Adds that it is a pretty quick scoring track here and hopefully it spins more for us like it did the other night when they were batting, he concluded.
Ravindra Jadeja picks up another 3 wickets for India supported by 1-1 wicket each by every other Indian bowler except Axar Patel who went wicketless in his 6 overs. 3 run outs for England, all at the end of the innings that did manage to slow down the momentum for them. Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana were good with the ball in the end overs with Hardik Pandya working in the middle overs. Varun Chakravarthy also opened his wickets account in ODI cricket with one wicket on debut. Now. India looks at a task of 305 runs in 50 overs under the lights and dew coming in.
England started the innings brilliantly with an 81-run partnership for the first wicket. Ben Duckett goes on to score a fifty joined by Joe Root after the dismissal of Phil Salt. Joe Root stuck at the crease from one end till the 35th over, scoring 69 before falling to Ravindra Jadeja once again in the series. Liam Livingstone managed to strike a few in the final overs but the Indian bowling line up was up to the task of picking up quick wickets in the end, breaking all the momentum and platform provided by the English top order. In the end, England scored 304 in the first innings of the second ODI of the series.
A brilliant comeback from India in the final overs after being dominated by the English batters. England still managed 304 runs in 50 overs after losing all the wickets. Ravindra Jadeja being the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for India. A good batting effort from Joe Root and Ben Duckett both getting their respective fifties.

Shreyas Iyer runs across to pick it up and throws in one motion. Liam Livingstone puts in the flat dive. KL Rahul collects it close to the stumps and flicks the bails in a flash! The big screen shows that Liam Livingstone is just short of his crease. He has to walk!
IN THE AIR....AND DROPPED! Shubman Gill the culprit there! Banged in short and angled towards the batter. Liam Livingstone looking to pull top edges it straight into the air. Shubman Gill runs in from backward square leg and puts in the dive. He gets his hands to the ball but it does not stick in his hands! The batters run through for a brace.

Commentary
Right then, that is it from the 2nd ODI where India takes an unassailable lead while England will play for pride in the next one. Now, we will shift our focus to the third and final ODI on 12th February, Wednesday. That will begin at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Rohit Sharma, the victorious skipper of India, is also the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant ton. He says that he enjoyed batting today, scoring some runs for the team. Adds that he broke it down into pieces how he wanted to bat. Mentions that he assessed what he wanted to do at regular intervals and it is important for batters to get set and go as deep as possible. Further mentions that looking at the pitch, the black soil, the ball tends to skid on so it was important to present a full face of the bat. Adds that later on he understood what the English players were looking to do, not giving any room to hit so he tried to access the gaps in the field. Adds that he got good support from Shubman Gill as well. Says that there is no mantra and they are just looking to bat as a team and he is not overawed by the situation and keeps his head down to do the job. Adds that the middle overs are crucial in ODI cricket and it is important to take wickets to stem the flow of runs. Mentions that they want to get better as a team and there is nothing specific for him going forward. Concludes by saying that as long as the guys are clear and keep doing what they are doing, there is not much to be worried about!
Jos Buttler, the captain of England says that they got into nice positions while batting but a few of them needed to convert their starts into big ones to push them closer to 350 which would have been a good total. He praises Rohit Sharma for his incredible hundred and says that he has been doing this a lot in ODIs for many years now. Mentions that they wanted to put runs on the board, but maybe the ball skidded on a bit more in the second innings but India played very well. Says that the two openers gave them a good start again and Joe Root also batted well, but they were a bit short. Ends by saying that they just keep taking steps in the right direction despite the results.
Presentation Time...
England will be gutted with their bowling effort! They failed to strike early and were sloppy in the field, letting India take control. Wickets came in the middle and later on, with Jamie Overton grabbing two, while Gus Atkinson, Adil Rashid, and Liam Livingstone chipped in - but by then, the damage was done. A tough outing, and they'll know they let this one slip!
Shubman Gill is up for a quick chat. He says that he was feeling good out there. Says that Rohit Sharma makes it easy for the other batters and the way he took on the faster bowlers was a treat to watch from the other end. Adds that the chat was simple to play according to the ball, and once set, try to go big and look to dominate the bowlers whenever you can. Concludes by saying that it was a decent wicket but the odd ball was keeping low.
Earlier in the game, England put up a fighting total, thanks to classy fifties from Ben Duckett and Joe Root, with Liam Livingstone adding the final flourish. But India's spinners turned the tide! Ravindra Jadeja was sensational, striking thrice, while Harshit Rana and Mohammed Shami chipped in to pull things back brilliantly after a shaky start.
India's chase was all about intent, and Rohit Sharma led the charge in vintage style! Batting like a dream, he and Shubman Gill raced past their fifties, stitching a blazing century stand. Gill departed, Kohli couldn’t fire, but Rohit was unstoppable, smashing his 32nd ODI ton in grand fashion. Though he fell before the finish, Shreyas Iyer chipped in, and Axar Patel's cool-headed, unbeaten 41 wrapped up the victory.
INDIA SEALS THE SERIES! A dominant show from the hosts as they outclass England and clinch the series with a game to spare. The crowd erupts in joy as the Men in Blue proves why they were the better side, seizing key moments with brilliance. For the visitors, it's a tale of missed chances, both with the bat and ball - they'll need to regroup fast with the Champion Trophy right around the corner.
FOUR! AND WITH THAT India WIN THE SERIES! Goes full and outside off. Ravindra Jadeja shimmies down the track and drives it inside out to go in between mid off and cover as the ball races towards the fence for a boundary. India go up 2-0.
Full and on off. Ravindra Jadeja defends it towards mid on.
WIDE! Fired down leg and Ravindra Jadeja lets it be. WIDED!

Liam Livingstone managed to strike a few in the final overs but the Indian bowling line up was up to the task of picking up quick wickets in the end, breaking all the momentum and platform provided by the English top order. In the end, England scored 304 in the first innings of the second ODI of the series.

We are moments away from the start of a Second ODI. The players and the umpires walk out and take the field. England after winning the toss and batting first have Ben Duckett and Phil Salt as their opening par to start the scoring. Mohammed Shami has the new ball in hand to start the bowling attack for India. Let's Play!
India captain Rohit Sharma expresses satisfaction with his team's all-round performance, emphasizing that both batting and bowling clicked well. He stresses the importance of maintaining consistency and taking one game at a time after their first ODI victory. Rohit appreciates the energy and intensity displayed by the players, especially since many of them hadn't played together recently. He believes setting the tone from ball one was crucial and hopes to continue the positive momentum. Reacts on the wicket saying that it is a typical Indian wicket and they are happy chasing. Finishes by saying that Virat Kohli is back in the side with Varun Chakravarthy on his debut.
Jos Buttler at the toss calls it right and chooses to bat first. Says that they are pushing in the right direction and they have played for longer here. Adds that they are looking to have a good game. Further mentions that they want to play the way they were playing before, being positive and smart as well. Adds that two guys in the earlier match started well in the powerplay. So they want to keep the pressure on the opposition for longer periods of time. Mentions that it is black soil underneath the wicket. Informs that Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton come into the 11, he concluded.
India (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli (In for Yashasvi Jaiswal), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakravarthy (On debut, in for Kuldeep Yadav).
England (Playing XI) - Ben Duckett, Phil Salt (WK), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (C), Liam Livingstone, Jamie Overton (In for Jacob Bethell), Gus Atkinson (In for Brydon Carse), Adil Rashid, Mark Wood (in for Jofra Archer), Saqib Mahmood.
TOSS! England have won the coin toss and have decided to have a BAT first!
PITCH REPORT! Deep Dasgupta and Graeme Swann provide insights on the pitch conditions in Cuttack, highlighting the hot and humid weather and the venue’s high-scoring nature. The ground dimensions are relatively small, with boundaries measuring 63m and 64m square, and 73m straight. Swann notes that England struggled to cross 300 in the previous match despite batting first. He observes that this pitch is not as hard as before, with visible cracks that could assist seam movement. While the sun will aid skidding, the spinners are expected to get a turn in the latter part of the first innings. Looks like a high-scoring venue, they concluded.
Varun Chakravarthy gets his ODI Debut for India!
It promises to be a thrilling contest between two top sides looking to gain the upper hand. Will India seal the series today? Or can England force a decider in Ahmedabad? We will find out! Stay tuned for the toss and team news!
The conditions in Cuttack traditionally favor batters in the first half, with dew likely to play a role later in the evening. Teams batting second have enjoyed considerable success here, which could influence the captain’s decision at the toss. Given England’s aggressive approach in white-ball cricket, they may look to set an imposing total if they get the chance to bat first. On the other hand, India’s strength in chasing makes them comfortable regardless of the situation.
For India, the return of Virat Kohli is the big talking point. The veteran batter missed the first match due to a knee concern but is expected to slot back into the XI today. His presence not only strengthens the batting lineup but also provides invaluable experience in pressure situations. With the likes of Rohit Sharma, Gill, and Iyer in good touch, the hosts will be confident of putting up another strong performance. The question is, who is going to make way for Kohli? The bowling department, led by Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana, was impressive in Nagpur, restricting England’s batters effectively in the middle overs. Kuldeep Yadav’s variations will once again be key on what is expected to be a slow and gripping surface.
England, led by Jos Buttler, will be disappointed with their performance in the first ODI. Despite a solid platform set by Buttler and young all-rounder Jacob Bethell, their middle order failed to capitalize, resulting in a below par total. The bowlers, spearheaded by Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood, did manage to pick up wickets at regular intervals. Still, a composed knock from Shubman Gill, coupled with valuable contributions from Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, guided India home comfortably. The tourists will now look to put that loss behind them and come out with renewed intent.
Hello, and welcome to the second ODI between India and England, coming to you from the iconic Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. After an exciting opening game in Nagpur, where India chased down 249 with four wickets in hand, the visitors will be eager to bounce back and level the three-match series. With the Champions Trophy just around the corner, both teams are keen to fine-tune their combinations and build winning momentum.
... MATCH DAY ...
The 2025 Champions Trophy is on the horizon and we are now witnessing the dress rehearsals taking place before the mega event as a few teams are playing up against each other in the sub-continent in the ODI format and gearing up for the challenge. This now brings us to the 2nd ODI between India and England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack as the hosts look to seal another white-ball series win against the English, who, themselves will be looking for redemption. It has been quite a torrid tour for England but if we look closely, then we can find that they simply haven't played the big moments well, resulting in some big losses and the coach Brendan McCullum will not be happy with it. England looked decent in the first 4 T20Is but had their shortcomings against the spin, however, that morale-deflating loss in the fifth T20I has certainly taken its toll and even after their best opening performance with the bat of the tour in the first ODI, they couldn't even manage a solid total on the board. Jos Buttler has certainly been the only consistent batter and young Jacob Bethell has looked the part as well but it is the highly-rated Harry Brook who is having a tour to forget even after a remarkable Test season and England really need him to fire or else it will become increasingly difficult for them in the Champions Trophy as well. On the flip side, India have had their batting woes as well with skipper Rohit Sharma still misfiring and Virat Kohli out injured for the first game and in doubt for the second one as well. Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn't do much on debut but the two ODI specialist batters, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer both stood up to the challenge along with Axar Patel to get India over the line. Their bowling looks pretty solid and Harshit Rana picked up three wickets on debut after receiving some tap early in his spell and not just that but India are spoilt for choices in the spin department and we might even see Varun Chakravarthy being given a go in the ODI format. The last time these two teams met in and ODI at the Barabati Stadium, something magical happened as the iconic duo of Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni pulled India out of the trenches with twin centuries before Jason Roy and Eoin Morgan nearly matched that, resulting in a close encounter with nearly 750 runs being scored and eventually, the hosts edged it by 15 runs. The weather is expected to be a bit warm and humid but it will cool down in the second innings and with fairly short boundaries and lightning-fast outfield, we could potentially see a pretty high-scoring encounter. Will England be able to hit their way out of trouble and level the series? Or will India seal yet another series win? Only time will tell.

Mentions that they wanted to put runs on the board, but maybe the ball skidded on a bit more in the second innings but India played very well.
