Sophie Molineux

Sophie Molineux

Bowler
Left Handed & Slow left-arm orthodox

Sophie Molineux is Australia’s calm heartbeat in chaos, a left-arm spinner and handy batter who marries nerve with nous, turning big games with quiet, ruthless spells and smart lower-order runs.

She made her domestic List A debut for Victoria in the 2016–17 WNCL and her T20 debut for Melbourne Renegades in the inaugural 2015–16 WBBL. Rapid progress followed as she won WBBL’s Young Gun award in season 3, scoring 318 runs and picking up 6 wickets, and also the Renegades MVP the next year, before taking on the Renegades captaincy later in her career. Those seasons cemented her reputation as a clutch finisher with the bat and a power-play and middle-overs operator with the ball.

Molineux broke into the Australian side in 2018, making her T20I and ODI debuts against India and Pakistan, respectively. She played every game in Australia’s ICC Women’s World T20 triumph that same year and went on to make a memorable Test debut in the 2019 Ashes, taking four wickets and contributing with the bat in both innings. Despite injuries throughout her career, she has remained a key figure, producing standout comebacks that underline her resilience and class. She has also played pivotal roles in World Cup wins across formats, delivering in crunch moments on the biggest stage.

After injury setbacks, she engineered a standout comeback in 2024, returning in the Test vs South Africa and then starring on the Bangladesh tour (including T20I Player of the Series), which led to a renewed central contract. Following her return, she was named in Australia’s plans for the 2025 ODI World Cup. In franchise cricket, she has been a long-time pillar for the Melbourne Renegades (WBBL) and has also featured for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred and Canterbury Magicians in New Zealand. In Women’s T20 League 2024, she delivered the tournament’s defining moment - a triple-wicket over (3/20) in the final for Bengaluru, earning the Player of the Final award and helping the franchise clinch their maiden title.
