Akoijam Mirabai Devi is a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from the Patsoi constituency. The former Cabinet minister is one of the state's few female candidates who has built a name for herself in Manipur politics. Since Patsoi is Akoijam Mirabai Devi's home turf, she is again contesting from the same constituency. She has been a Patsoi MLA since 2012, when she first won the seat after losing in the Assembly elections in 2000, 2002 and 2007. Mirabai has a sizable female following since her campaign message has always focused on women's empowerment. Mirabai, a senior Congress leader, has been a member of the Congress since 1980 when she joined the Congress Seva Dal as a volunteer.
